Mainly trout, I believe, though I'm fairly sure the Department of Game, Fish and Parks intends those fish for public waters.

When I walked to school that way when I was young, there was a man who used to do a lot of fishing in the pool where the hatchery fish were released. We used to call him the Cheater Fisherman.

If you'd like some information about how to obtain stock for your fish pond in a non-cheater way, you can find some info at the GF&P site:

Oh, I've never thought about taking my kids to feed the fish before. What a fun idea, and what a beautiful walk, if the picture you have here is any indication! Thanks!

Wild grapes are edible (though terribly tart), and it is possible to make wine out of them (also terribly tart). I'd recommend trying some of the fruit wines they make here in the state, which I prefer over the grape wines, though they do cultivate grapes here too, believe it or not! Check out http://www.prairieberry.com/ for one local winery.

And the school I went to was Cleghorn Elementary, which is no longer there because they decided the facilities were too out of date and the building would be too expensive to fix. You can read a bit more about it in my Little School post. http://www.blackhillstravelblog.com/?p=34

I've been to fish farms before, they're actually a lot of fun. I wish I could get my hubby to go for walks like that!

I didn't know wild grapes grew in the Black Hills. Also, where did you go to school and why isn't the building there anymore?
