A couple weeks ago, my wife and I caught part of Oprah’s prime-time holiday interview with the Obamas. The President and First Lady showed Oprah around The White House which was all decorated for the season.

During the TV special, the Christmas tree in the Blue Room was featured. Michelle Obama explained how they had decorated the tree this year with more than 800 “recycled” ornaments. Old tree decorations were sent out across the country – to 60 different communities – where people were asked to decorate them and send them back to The White House.

Somebody decorated one of the ornaments with a picture of Mount Rushmore and shellacked President Obama’s likeness next to the four historic faces.

This morning – news outlets are buzzing about that ornament and questioning its appropriateness on the tree.

Conservative blog, BigGovenment.com, broke the story a couple of days ago and posted the above photo, along with a few others of ornaments in question.

The last time Mount Rushmore got this much press – there were Greenpeace activists rappelling down Abe Lincoln’s face. Agree with the current President or not, it’s neat to see that somebody thought enough of Mount Rushmore National Memorial to put it on a White House Christmas tree decoration.

What’s your opinion?
