Mount Rushmore Comes Alive; Onion Not Surprised

CG Mount Rushmore Alive With Fangs, Eating People, From The Onion

In honor of Friday, I hereby post this goofy image of Mount Rushmore from The Onion. I haven’t read much of the satire magazine since college, but one of my coworkers still finds time to trawl the site. Actually, his mother sent him this one. I think that makes it better. The fangs on Lincoln are a nice touch. The headline is also good, but it makes me wonder about the 6% of South Dakotans who aren’t surprised about their beloved presidents coming alive and going on a rampage.

I want to categorize this with the Muppet post I made a while back – not because the Muppets make absurdist jokes about eating people – but because it’s another example of Mount Rushmore in pop culture. It’s not hard to find them.

If you like the absurdism of The Onion, you might want to check out this fantastic article about the unchecked threat of North Dakota’s nuclear stockpile. You’ll find some pretty glowing comments about us innocent, betrayed South Dakotans from former French president Jacques Chirac.

We just hope Hans Blix has gotten through to Bismarck…
