“What?! This Sunday is Mother’s Day already?” That was my reaction the other day when asked if I’d put my card in the mail yet. If you’re anything like me, it might have snuck up on you this year too.

Not to fret – there’s still time to get Mom something really unique for Mother’s Day – a special two-hour train ride through the beautiful Black Hills on the historic 1880 Train from Hill City.

The folks who operate the 1880 Train have put together a special ‘Mother’s Day Express’ event this year that’s guaranteed to be a bit more memorable than that pink and yellow corsage from years past.

The Mother’s Day Express ride will include champagne, cupcakes and more! A relaxing ride on the 1880 Train is one of the best ways to enjoy the spectacular scenery in the central Black Hills.

Along the historic route between Hill City and Keystone, there will even be an Old West style shootout. This is definitely an adventure that Mom won’t soon forget.

The train will depart the Hill City station at 1:15 p.m. this Sunday, May 9 and the round-trip ride is scheduled to last about two hours.

Tickets for the Mother’s Day Express train ride are still available, but are selling fast and advanced reservations are highly recommended. Prices are $39 for adults, $20 for ages 3-20 and children 2 and under ride free.

To make your reservations for the Mother’s Day Express train ride, call 605-574-2222 and the 1880 Train staff will be happy to help you out.

Joe is a resident of Spearfish, S.D. He grew up in the tall-corn state of Iowa, where he developed an early interest in all things outdoors. After high school he moved to Vermillion, S.D., where he earned his bachelor’s degree in public relations and advertising. During his college years, two things caught his attention: the beauty of western South Dakota’s Black Hills and a girl from those Black Hills. After graduating from college, Joe traveled across the country as a recruiter for the University of South Dakota. He saw the sights from Pittsburgh to Las Vegas and everywhere in between, but it was the Black Hills (and the girl) that kept drawing him back. He and wife moved back to the Black Hills in 2008. He's an avid hiker, mountain biker and road cyclist whose future plans include trying to fit a pair of kayaks into the spare bedroom.
