Do you enjoy hiking? Trail running? Mountain biking? Do you have a bit of a creative streak? If yes, here’s your chance to make your mark on the outdoor adventure scene in the Black Hills.

Design the best logo for a popular area trail park and it could become the new official park symbol. AND – you could win a brand-spanking-new bike too!

Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park, the world class hiking, biking and running trail park in Rapid City, is more commonly known as “M Hill.” The park’s foundation is currently hosting a logo design contest in partnership with the upcoming Black Hills Fat Tire Festival.

Two winners of the logo design contest will be awarded bicycles from local bike shop partners Two Wheeler Dealer and ACME Bicycles of Rapid City. The overall winner will have the choice of a Kona mountain bike or a Specialized commuter bike. Both would be pretty sweet new rides, if you ask me!

The winners will be selected by the Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park Foundation and will be announced on May 29, 2010 at the Black Hills Fat Tire Film Festival in Rapid City.

The logo design contest for the park is open to the public and as far as we can tell, all types of artwork will be accepted.

The only guidelines that have been given are: “Help the Foundation honor and memorialize the generous, pioneering 85-year old rancher and business woman Edna Larsen, whose financial support and vision made this park possible, with a logo that represents the splendor and majesty of our park and the Black Hills area.

All logo design submissions have to be submitted to the Black Hills Fat Tire Festival organizers by May 25th to be considered.

Submit your design via email to info@bhfattirefestival.com or by snail mail to:

About the Author

Joe Rainboth is a resident of Spearfish, S.D. He grew up in the tall-corn state of Iowa, where he developed an early interest in all things outdoors. After high school he moved to Vermillion, S.D., where he earned his bachelor’s degree in public relations and advertising. During his college years, two things caught his attention: the beauty of western South Dakota’s Black Hills and a girl from those Black Hills. After graduating from college, Joe traveled across the country as a recruiter for the University of South Dakota. He saw the sights from Pittsburgh to Las Vegas and everywhere in between, but it was the Black Hills (and the girl) that kept drawing him back. He and wife moved back to the Black Hills in 2008. He's an avid hiker, mountain biker and road cyclist whose future plans include trying to fit a pair of kayaks into the spare bedroom.
