Labor Day Weekend in the Black Hills
One of my favorite weekends of the year is almost here – Labor Day. It’s the perfect excuse to get outside and enjoy some of the last days of summer. And I can’t think of a better place to do just that than the Black Hills.
Here’s a list of a couple of ways I wouldn’t mind spending my time.
Hiking in and pitching the tent somewhere in the Black Elk Wilderness or Custer State Park outside of Custer, SD, is always high on my list. I love star-gazing before climbing into my cozy little tent for the night. And if I’m in Custer State Park, a drive on the Wildlife Loop can’t be missed. The size and strength of the buffalo never ceases to amaze me.
I’m pretty sure the weather is going to be nice enough for swimming. The sandy beach at Angostura State Recreation Area outside of Hot Springs, SD, is calling my name. I’ve never been to the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary in that area and would like to see the horses grazing in the golden-tipped grass.
I’ll also have to Visit Spearfish, SD, to cheer for my friend who is riding in the Dakota Five-O bike race. Maybe, just maybe, someday over Labor Day I’ll labor my way through that ride on my bike…but not just yet.
Have a great Labor Day weekend everyone!
