Fall Festivals = Busy Black Hills Weekend

It’s a busy, busy weekend here in the hills! Fall colors in their primes, active wildlife everywhere and more events than you can shake a stick at. All throughout the Black Hills there are special fall activities and festivals taking place this weekend. Here’s a quick roundup for your attending pleasure. - Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup & Arts Festival: One of South Dakota’s premier annual events. Saturday and Sunday: kids’ entertainment, chili cook-off, art and craft vendors, the famous Buffalo chip-flip competition and live music. Monday: Buffalo roundup.
- Spearfish Harvest Fest: The Spearfish Downtown Business Association hosts the annual Harvest Fest, in downtown Spearfish on Saturday, September 25 from 9AM-5PM. Harvest Fest is full of activities for the whole family! There will be live musical performances throughout the day. Also sidewalk sales, vendors, fresh produce and children’s activities.
- Badger Clark Hometown Cowboy Music & Poetry Gathering: Hot Springs. Rated one of the top three poetry events in the country, by American Cowboy magazine, this event promises to be a fun-filled couple of days of Old West entertainment and storytelling.
- Black Hills Farmers Market: Held Saturdays in Founders Park in Rapid City, the weekly event during the summer is one of the largest in the region.
- Free Cave Tours at Wind Cave National Park: In honor of National Public Lands Day, all tours at Wind Cave National Park will be free to the public on Saturday, Sept. 25. Tours last an hour and 15 minutes, with the first of eight tours leaving at 9 a.m. Cave temperature is 53 degrees; a light coat and sturdy walking shoes are recommended. - Edgemont Fall Festival: A free day, full of fun activities for everyone – starting at 9AM on Saturday.Horseback poker run, car show, tractor show, quilt show, farmers market, wagon rides, a dance and more.
- Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary Family Day: Annual fundraiser event for the animal rescue and care organization near Spearfish. $5 per person at the gate. Perfect opportunity for all ages to view the hundreds of domestic and exotic animals that call the sanctuary home.
