December free day at Journey Museum

The Journey Museum will be hosting an afternoon of free admission on Sunday, December 13th from 1 to 5 p.m.
On the 13th, in exchange for the afternoon of free admission to the museum, the staff is asking all visitors to bring a few non-perishable food items to donate to the KOTA Care & Share food. All food items and proceeds donated will benefit community food banks in South Dakota.
With it’s combination of American Indian heritage, western history displays and archeological discoveries, Rapid City’s Journey Museum is an amazing place to visit.
The museum is the home to some very interesting dinosaurs – and we’re not talking about the big green concrete types you see elsewhere in the Black Hills. These are the real things – dinosaur fossils – carefully excavated and restored for all to see.
Also in the Journey Museum, are impressive collections of Sioux Indian artifacts – most of which have been obtained from the Pine Ridge, Rosebud and Cheyenne River reservations.
There are gold-rush era exhibitions, information about the Battle of Little Big Horn and the list goes on and on. It’s tough to describe everything you’ll see at the Journey Museum, so your best bet is to go make a visit for yourself.
Sunday, December 13th will give you and your family the perfect opportunity to go to the Journey Museum and learn more about Black Hills history. At the same time, you’ll be helping a very good cause this holiday season with your food donations at the door.
I’m going grocery shopping tonight and I plan to pick up a few extras for this event. I hope you’ll plan to do the same – see you at the museum!
