The 20th annual Deadwood Jam – the Black Hills’ premier fall music festival – is coming up this weekend, September 17th and 18th. It promises to be one of the best Jams yet – with headliners Blood, Sweat & Tears and Collective Soul.

Blood, Sweat & Tears will wrap up the first day of the festival, on Friday, Sept. 17. The band has racked up album sales in the millions, earned multiple gold albums, earned 10 Grammy nominations and took home three. They even beat out the Beatles and Johnny Cash for the “Album of the Year” Grammy in 1970.

Blood, Sweat & Tears has been called one of the greatest horn bands in the history of popular music. Their hits, such as “Spinning Wheel, “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy,” “And When I Die,” “Fire and Rain” and “Ride Captain Ride,” are known worldwide.

Since forming in 1993, Collective Soul has gone on to become a multi-platinum band with a catalog of No. 1 hits such as “The World I Know,” “Shine,” “December,” and many others. Their song “Tremble for My Beloved” was on the soundtrack for the movie “Twilight.” Collective Soul’s newest album, currently in stores, already has the hits “Staring Down” and “You” playing on radio stations across the country. Collective Soul will take the Jam stage on Saturday, Sept. 18.

Joining Collective Soul and Blood, Sweat & Tears in the Jam lineup is John McEuen, a founding member of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and a founder of the Deadwood Jam itself. John Eddie, with hits such as “If You’re Here When I Get Back” and “Forty” will also take the Jam stage. The full lineup of performers can be found on the Deadwood Chamber website.

Friday – gates open at 3:30 p.m. Concert starts at 5:30 p.m. Saturday – gates open at 11 a.m. Concert starts at 12 noon. You’re welcome to bring your own folding/camp chair to relax in while you enjoy the music and a cold one from the beer garden

After graduating from college, Joe traveled across the country as a recruiter for the University of South Dakota.
