1000 photos blog

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a thousand pictures should be worth what? A million words?

Makes sense to me – and to the fans of the Black Hills page on Facebook. Fans have been adding their favorite photos of all things Black Hills-related for more than a year now and the images speak volumes.

The online collection of Facebook fan photos recently hit the 1,000 photo milestone and has grown into what is arguably the largest single source of Black Hills imagery anywhere.

The sheer variety of photos that has been added is staggering. The fan photos are an impressive mix of outdoor adventure, nature, attractions, events and culture. Shots of Mount Rushmore are plentiful. Spearfish Canyon waterfalls abound. Sunsets and fall foliage are popular and there are more bison photos than you can shake a stick at.

All of the photos are unique and cover just about every inch of the hills in one way or another. From the Badlands to Bear Butte and Wind Cave to Wyoming – there are fan photos that showcase it all.

Some of the shots come from professional photographers who’ve been shooting the hills for decades, while other photos are from young children who happened to capture a great memory of their Black Hills vacation.

The different types of photos shared on the Black Hills Facebook page reflect the variety of the fans who make the page what it is – an interactive community of folks who love the Black Hills region and all that makes it unforgettable.

Above is a sampling of the amazing photos that have been shared on the Black Hills Facebook page. Click the gallery below to see them full size. About the Author

Joe Rainboth is a resident of Spearfish, S.D. He grew up in the tall-corn state of Iowa, where he developed an early interest in all things outdoors. After high school he moved to Vermillion, S.D., where he earned his bachelor’s degree in public relations and advertising. During his college years, two things caught his attention: the beauty of western South Dakota’s Black Hills and a girl from those Black Hills. After graduating from college, Joe traveled across the country as a recruiter for the University of South Dakota. He saw the sights from Pittsburgh to Las Vegas and everywhere in between, but it was the Black Hills (and the girl) that kept drawing him back. He and wife moved back to the Black Hills in 2008. He's an avid hiker, mountain biker and road cyclist whose future plans include trying to fit a pair of kayaks into the spare bedroom.
